My recent experience with a bank officer at a CIBC branch on May 26 of 2022 updated May 28

I went to a CIBC branch located in my area to get a replacement Interac/ATM bank mavhine card. I was waiting in the waiting area. A woman came and spoke to me to find out the reason why I was waiting, which I explained. She also asked me if I was using my phone. After that she asked me for my drivers licence, I showed her my licence, after examining my licening she was about to walk away with my licence while I was still in the waiting area (neither in her office, nor at a tellers counter). I told her if she wanted to walk away with my ID than I will follow her to make sure that I don't lose my ID, and she gave it  back to me, after that few minutes later she called me in her office where she used my ID to locate my account.
This was unusal to check the ID in waiting area. I have been dealing with banking matters since around 1965 because of my father's business in Karachi. They never take ID in waiting area to walk away. This was the first time that a bank officer attempted to pull this one on me. I was always asked for ID at the teller's counter or in the office, where they give it back right away as soon they finish checking, and ID never goes out of the sight during the whole transaction.
