I learned something new on August 12 of 2024, which I never learned before that amount owing can be positive or negative. When I was reading my rent account with OCH on the internet it was showing amount owing with a positive sign, meaning it was a credit (or surplus, unused amount of money) in my account. But if the amount owing was negative, will mean debt to be paid, or unpaid amount. This may not be a standard accounting practice, perhaps just the software department of OCH decided to program the system like this. One method to show amount owing or deficit in account is to put parenthesis around the numbers like (9999) etc. surplus in account is not amount owing, absolutely not and should not be labelled as amount owing. Such flawed information or wording in a tenants account can be misinterpreted by people and they can start taking action without due process on such flawed information.
